Dr. Kerric St. Clair Harvey

As an author, professor, playwright, and screenwriter, Dr. Kerric St. Clair Harvey has spent more than 15 years bringing history, science, and culture to vibrant life in the alternative and mainstream media.

A summer resident of Dublin and Donegal, much of her inspiration comes from the land of the leprechauns. Her whimsical radio comedy, “Driving in Ireland,” premiered September 2001 on RTE, Ireland’s pre-eminent broadcast organization. A magical flight from Baltimore to Dublin is the setting of her play Reading Aer Lingus, scheduled for U.S. production in the spring of 2002.

Three of Dr. Harvey’s recent stage plays opened in Washington, D.C. Reckoning was performed as readers’ theatre and Stutter was part of the National V-Day Initiative. One of 10,000 Reasons Why Women are Absolutely Necessary, a university produced one-act play, was later adapted as a short film.

Her film projects include working with PBS on Fire on the Rim, a five-part series and Celebrate the Women, a centennial feature; and script consulting for the Friday Harbour Whaling Museum, The A&E Channel, ScienCentral Productions, and the Cerebellum Corporation. She has also moonlighted as a consultant or as a speaker for the Smithsonian Institution, The National Science Foundation, and on one mutually startling occasion, the White House.

She is an associate professor at The George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs, where she also assists the Film Studies Program and the Documentary Center, headed by Emmy Award-winner Nina Seavey. Prior to entering academic life, Dr. Harvey dedicated nearly 10 years to community and public television, and collaborated on a number of free-lance, independent film, and television projects.

Current projects in development include a number of documentary festival films, drawing on her international colleagues and resources. She is also the author of numerous journal articles, plays, and fictional pieces, exploring topics that range from the metaphysics of genetic engineering to Renaissance Europe.

Dr. Harvey was educated at Washington College, McGill University, Cornell University, and the University of Washington. Her hobbies include, but are never limited to cinema, fencing, sailing, and squash. She divides her time between the U.S. and Ireland and is a cheerful addict of international travel.
