McCombs Admissions Committee Student Leadership
Briton Pheffer, Co-ChairConcentration: Marketing
Internship: MillerCoors
This summer I was a brand marketing intern at MillerCoors in their Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL offices. I worked on the MGD 64 brand team where I was responsible for providing strategic and tactical recommendations for driving customer loyalty.
Background
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003, with a BS in Communication Arts. Prior to business school, I spent several years in Chicago working as an Account Executive at a pharmaceutical advertising agency in Chicago. At McCombs, I am concentrating in Marketing/Brand Management. In addition to being a co-chair of the McCombs Admissions Committee, I serve as an officer of Marketing Fellows. I am also a member of the Graduate Marketing Network and Graduate Women in Business.
Why MAC?
I really enjoy speaking with prospective students and telling them about McCombs. I’m passionate about this program and all of the opportunities that it provides. Also, MAC was a big reason why I chose McCombs. By speaking with MAC members I felt like I got a real view of the program. I want to help give back to the school and ensure that we continue to recruit top talent into the program.
Daniel Salas, Co-ChairConcentration: Finance, Supply Chain Management
Internship: Bank of America, Quality & Productivity Group (internship was in Charlotte, North Carolina).
Created visualization tool to improve the bank supplier assessment process and reduce data risk and travel costs in the US, Europe, and Asia. I also researched and documented methodologies around transformational change in the financial sector.
Background:
Prior to McCombs, I worked 2 years at JP Morgan Chase as a strategy analyst in credit cards. I also worked 5 years for Accenture as a manager in Strategy and Technology Consulting. I worked on a variety of projects, including the Department of Commerce, Department of Defense, BMW, and XM Satellite Radio. I am originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, and graduated from Cornell University in 2002 with a degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering. In addition to being a co-chair for the Texas MBA Admissions Committee, I serve as VP of the MBA Soccer Club. I am also a member of the Graduate Finance Association, Net Impact, the Hispanic Graduate Business Association, and the Graduate Operations Group.
Why MAC?
I want to serve as an ambassador for the school I have grown to love. Specifically, I want to help prospective students throughout their application and decision process on which business school to attend. When I applied to business schools, I had a very positive experience with past MAC members when I visited McCombs. That made my decision very easy, and I hope to give back in that same way to others. Serving as a co-chair on MAC also allows me to help shape the future student body, to ensure the quality and tradition of the program continues, and to continue building the Texas MBA brand.
Ryan Brown, Co-ChairConcentration: Finance
