Online Career Resources
Whether you’re looking for a new job, seeking advice for a career challenge, or just wondering how the job you have stacks up to the market, there are a multitude of Web sites out there that have something to offer you. We searched the Internet to find the best career resources for business professionals. Many have similar functions, but some clearly stand out in the crowd. While the McCombs School does not endorse or support any of these sites, we offer our opinions on their pros and cons. Happy hunting!
Career Sites
www.careermag.com
Jobs
database, resume bank, salary wizard, and career advice.
Universal postings make it laborious to get to jobs you’re
interested in.
Professional
resume writers, business-oriented listings, links to many resources.
Very little content is free—resources are all going to cost you.
A
gold mine of job hunting guidance; online discussions, recruiter
locator, resume critique, salary survey, lots of free stuff.
Couldn’t find a downside to this site!
A
place for the career changer to explore latest trends, skill sets
needed, and career paths for the industry of your choice.
Information does not seem up-to-date, scaled for the less mature job
seeker.
Talk
about a lot of information: daily and business news, links to research
and government agencies, office tools, and leisure categories too.
Almost too much information for the CEO…what happened to executive
summaries?
Since
UT is a participating university, via the Texas Exes, you get free
access to online recruiting and career management services.
Difficult to navigate—we couldn’t figure out how to engage with the
alumni services.
www.careerexposure.com
E-recruiting
network of sites targeted toward women, diversity, and MBA candidates.
Job search function seems flawed—doesn’t return correct results for
multiple search factors, certain companies seem over-represented.
Like
the magazine, this website is dedicated to the brand called: YOU. Also
has a Salary Wizard.
Mostly repackaged Fast Company articles, not a lot of information
breadth.
THE
job search site on the web. Serves as one stop shopping for a variety
of career services; relocation resources are unique.
Been there, done that! Has anyone really ever found a job through this
monster of a site?
www.jobsinthemoney.com
Started
by two INSEAD grads, this site is where it’s at for finance jobs.
Forbes Best of the Web 2003.
Finance, accounting, and banking jobs ONLY; marketing need not apply.
www.netshare.com
Selected
best site for $100,000+ Executive. Forbes Best of the Web. Emails you
positions based on your criteria.
Apparently, it costs money to make money…this site has a pricy entry
fee but ‘they’ say it’s worth it.
