student to conduct an interview…what now?
An overview of the Interview process:
1) Interview Request: You receive an automated e-mail requesting an
interview and providing you with contact information for the
student.
2) Interview Confirmation: E-mail the student to set up interview time
and date.
3) Interview Registration: Remind the student that they must REGISTER
the interview online.
4) Interview Preparation: Print out materials for interview. You will
find:
1) Core Questions and Sample Critique;
2) Fall 2004 Admission Profile and
3) McCombs Fact Sheet
5) Conduct Interview: Please use the five core questions on the Sample
Critique in order to keep consistency across Interviews. You are
welcome to ask additional questions of your own.
6) Post-interview Critique: Submit the online critique form. Please DO
NOT e-mail the critique form because it will not register in the
student's file.
For detailed instructions, see the Interview Guidelines in the
Alumni Interview web site. Please note: you must login to view
this area.
How do I become an Alumni
Interviewer?
If you would like to become an Alumni Interviewer, update your online
profile in the Alumni Database. In the 'Involvement
Information' area, select "yes" for Admission Volunteer. This will give
you access to the Alumni Interview web site where you can
download the Interview Guidelines.
How do prospective students
get my contact information to request an interview?
In your online profile, you indicated that you were interested in
being an Admission Volunteer. This adds you to the Interview
web site where students can search for alumni in their geographic area.
I volunteered to be an
Alumni Interviewer, but I have never gotten a request to do an
interview…what gives?
If you have not been contacted, it may be because you are in a city
where there are more Alumni Interviewers than there are students who
make interview requests. The MAAN gallery randomizes the order of
alumni, so that each time a geographical search is done, different
alumni appear at the top of the list.
What do I do after I have
conducted the interview?
Interview critique form should be filled out if you receive the
official interview request and conduct the official interview asking at
least the 4 required core questions.
After the interview, log in to the
Alumni Interview site. Complete the online critique form.
Select "Submit Interview Critique." The student name should appear with
"Submit Critique." If the student's name does not appear, you can search
for the student in the search box indicated.
The critique form MUST be submitted online for it to be registered in
the students file. Please DO NOT e-mail the critique form.
Critique forms must be submitted within 1 week of the interview.
Please note: If you come across a situation where it appears
the applicant has interviewed with another alumnus or on campus contact,
you should notify us as soon as possible.
What does a standard interview
look like?
We suggest about 45 minutes for three parts:
1) Talk about your experience at McCombs.
2) Ask them the 5 core questions.
3) Let them ask you questions.
The students are asked to e-mail a resume and bring a copy to the
interview, but you might remind them. Interviews are business casual
unless the location requires more. Please notify the student if that is
the case.
What if I no longer want to be an
Alumni Interviewer?
If you no longer want to be an interviewer, simply login to your
profile online. Go to the section labeled "involvement information" and
select "No" for Admission Volunteer.
What if I have additional
questions; whom should I contact?
Jessica Quance,
Assistant Director
of Admissions
Jennie Loev, Director
of Alumni Relations
