  • Independent Studies (BA 391s)
An Independent Study – BA 391 course is arranged by an MBA student, who develops a project or research topic, and finds a McCombs professor who is interested in that project or topic and agrees to supervise the student’s research and evaluate the deliverable at the end of the semester. BA 391s, as independent studies are typically called, are elective classes worth three credit hours, and may be taken on a grade or credit/no credit basis, with approval of an MBA advisor and the supervising professor.
  • To Register for an Independent Study:
Meet with the instructor to discuss the content of the study, the scope of the research and the basis of the grade (including the length and breadth of the required deliverable).

Submit the completed MBA Independent Study Form to an MBA advisor, who will register you for the BA 391. The deadline for submitting a BA 391 form is the fifth class day in spring or fall and the third class day in summer.

All independent study course work must be submitted to the instructor, for grading, by the last day of class.

MBA students are NOT allowed to register for a BA 691. (These are reserved for PhD students.)
