MBA/Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies
The MBA/Middle Eastern Studies program combines advanced business studies with interdisciplinary studies and language, responding to an increased need in both public and private sectors for business specialists with a thorough understanding of Middle Eastern politics and cultures.
Students spend their first year in the program taking Middle Eastern Studies courses and the second year taking graduate business courses. The third year is a combination of both disciplines.
Degree Requirements
Students must complete a minimum of 79 credit-hours of coursework:
- 28 hours of required MBA core courses
- 18 hours of Business electives
- 6 hours of Middle Eastern Studies History Courses
- 6 hours of Middle Eastern Studies Arts and Humanities Courses
- 6 hours of Middle Eastern Studies Social Sciences Courses
- 12 hours of Middle Eastern Studies Electives
- 3 hours of Middle Eastern Studies, Professional Report (must be on a Middle Eastern/Business topic to be written during the last semester of the program)
Language Requirements
Upon completion of the program, students are expected to possess a proficiency in a middle eastern language (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish or other language with the approval of the Middle Eastern Graduate Studies Committee) equal to two years of course work. Students with no previous knowledge of a middle eastern language should be advised that enrollment in intensive language courses during the summer prior to entering the join degree program is desirable and recommended. Students in the Dual Degree Program will be encouraged to achieve the required level of proficiency as early as possible. Students whose native language is one of the middle eastern languages are required to take a second middle eastern language.
The Dual Degree code for this program is 6 68300 and should be referred to when applying to the program. Please note that a minimum of two years of full-time work experience is required for admission to the MBA program.
