Texas MBA with a Concentration
While there are no required majors for Texas MBAs, about half of the student body chooses to concentrate in an academic discipline. While optional, these market-driven concentrations are designed to position graduates for outstanding employment prospects and can offer an advantage in today’s dynamic workplace.
McCombs offers concentrations in the following areas:
Department of Finance Concentrations:
Approximately 40 percent of Texas MBAs work in finance after graduation. Outside the classroom, you can benefit from participation in the MBA Investment Fund, LLC, Venture Fellows and the Graduate Finance Association or simply from the breadth and depth of our top-20 Finance Department.
Department of Marketing Concentrations:
The marketing concentration, considered one of the top ten in the country by U.S. News & World Report, is flexibly designed to appeal to a variety of career aspirations. The popular functional area annually propels 20 percent of Texas MBAs on to employment in the field. Outside the classroom, the Graduate Marketing Network enables strong industry interaction.
Department of IROM Concentrations:
The IROM Department has several outstanding and nationally ranked programs including the information management program (#3 by U.S. News and #5 by the Wall Street Journal) and the productions/operations management program (#15 by U.S. News). Student organizations like Excellence in Operations create a forum for you to apply what you’ve learned.
Department of Management Concentration:
Students who concentrate in McCombs’ top-20 management program choose from an array of courses designed to increase your skills in developing and strategically managing people and processes. Graduates frequently take positions as management consultants, project managers, human resource managers or other managerial positions. The Graduate Consulting Group and Entrepreneur Society give Texas MBAs access to a professional network and the tools necessary to become top-tier management in their chosen field.
Department of Accounting Concentration:
Frequently listed by many publications as one of the premiere accounting programs in the country, the McCombs Department of Accounting has offerings for everyone—from marketing students looking to broaden their understanding of accounting basics to seasoned finance buffs preparing for a career in investments.
Interdisciplinary Concentrations:
Recognizing current business trends and the growing importance of globalization and sustainability, the Texas MBA offers three interdisciplinary concentrations. A variety of events and organizations on campus, such as the Entrepreneur Society and the UT Sustainable Business Summit, enrich the academic experience in these areas outside the classroom.
