McCombs Global Connections
Spring 2008 Destinations
Central Europe
Students who choose the Central Europe course will visit Prague, Czech Republic; Budapest, Hungary; and Bratislava, Slovak Republic.
This class will focus on how to manage business within a complex legal,
political, and economic system, concentrating on the many ways that
political, regulatory and legal institutions constrain the conduct of
business in the European Union member states and in the accession countries.
McCombs will collaborate on business consulting projects with students
from Central European University in Budapest.

Persian Gulf
This once in a lifetime trip to the United Arab Emirates and Egypt will
give students the opportunity to 'touch' the heart of the infrastructure
of the oil and gas industry in the Middle East. Gain an enormous appreciation
and zest for understanding the radical changes that have occurred to
these heretofore simple Bedouin, tribal people who have become global
royalty and economic wizards in two generations.

South Africa
This course will focus on the challenging political, cultural, and economic
backdrop to doing business in South Africa and on how those issues generalize
to other developing economies. The South Africa trip will visit
Cape Town and Johannesburg, the two business centers in the country,
with a side trip to Pretoria, time permitting. McCombs students will
work on projects for US and international companies, possibly in conjunction
with students from one of South America's top business schools. Industry
areas may include finance, tourism, import-export, technology, and community
development.

South America
This is the sixth year for the South America trip. Please visit
the course website for more information and for an overview
of the course. Students who choose this trip will visit Santiago in
Chile, where they will work in project teams with students at Pontificia
Universidad Católica de Chile. Projects consist of industry and
company comparisons between Chile and the U.S. Then the group
will experience the beauty of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In Rio students
visit with a number of non-Brazilians who live and work in Rio, providing
them with a sense of the life of an ex-pat. Also in Rio students
investigate the business side of Brazilian soccer, including visits
with Vasco da Gama sports club.

Southeast Asia
The Southeast Asia tour allows students to experience first-hand the
vast changes that are occurring in Asia. One of the distinctive characteristics
of the study tour is its geographic emphasis, covering the various nations,
economies, and social systems of Vietnam and Singapore.
More specifically, the program focuses on one or two multinational companies
that operate through branch or joint ventures.
